Hugger Ceiling Fans - The Best Choice For Smaller Spaces
When room height is an issue, the hugger ceiling fan is the option.

What are hugger fans?
A fan style where the motor mounts directly to the ceiling. Hugger ceiling fans are most commonly used in rooms with low ceilings. Hugger fans are manufactured and marketed as such and should not be confused with multi-mount (traditional) fans that can be hung without the down rod, giving the same effect as a hugger fan. Hugger fans are designed to allow installations on 7'6" – 8’ height ceilings when using a fan light kit in a location where walking under the fan will occur.

Flush mounts anchor the fan directly against the ceiling. Most standard fans can be installed as a flush mount; however, many manufacturers sell “hugger” or “low profile” ceiling fans that are specifically designed for this purpose.

Hugger ceiling fans are ideal for rooms that have ceilings under 8 feet in height or in situations where a fan with optional light would hang down too low. Hugger fans will not move as much air as a regular fan because the blades are closer to the ceiling.

When looking for a hugger, or low profile fan, there are some issues that need to be considered:

1.  Is it easy to assemble?
Some fan can be assembled and installed in an hour or two. Ask about the specific fan you're interested in.

2.  Does it come with a remote? Do you have the ability to change fan direction. speeds or have gradient dimming using the remote?

3.  How many speeds does the fan have?

4.  If there is one mounted in the showroom, check it out.  Is it quiet? Remember, there is generally a "break-in" time, about 24 hours.  So, if you do hear any noises, once yours is installed, give it the allotted time before asking for refund. The exception would be, of course, if the noise is so bad that you determine it might be a hazard to you or your family.

5. If it has a light kit, what type bulbs does it use, standard (not too many come with standard size bulbs) or the candelabra size.

These are issues that will increase the satisfaction with the product from the time of purchase to its use in the home.
